I’d highly recommend against an open clutch cover if you’re going to be riding in Pheonix. It’s desert out there and grit ends up getting into everything whether you want it to or not.
Just be dilegent in watching your temp gauge and don’t sit idleing too long and you’ll be fine. I rode in the central valley in California as well as in Tucson where it often gets up past 100 and I never ran into a problem with overheating. Then again you can’t ride long in that sort of heat either… it feels like hot air blasted from an oven. As long as you keep some air moving through it you bike will probably tolerate the heat longer than you.
The clutch was designed open for racing repairs. If there is a cover that still allows airflow use it. Air cooled bikes operate well above 115 F so the air is still cooler than the engine.
